Opportunities to supply Castell Howell and Peter Broughton

Are you interested in selling your horticultural produce and products to Castell Howell Foods or Peter Broughton fruit and vegetable wholesalers?  If so come along to meet Edward Morgan, the Welsh Procurement Manager from Castell Howell Foods and Nick Broughton and David Johns from Peter Broughton and find out the opportunities to supply their businesses.

Date:       Monday 9th January 2012  09.45 - 13.00
Venue:    Castell Howell Foods Ltd, Cross Hands Food Park, Cross Hands, Llanelli,
                  Carmarthenshire, SA14 6SX.

This is a follow up meeting to an initial meeting held on 6th December 2011 at the National Botanic Garden of Wales.  Both businesses confirmed that there was strong demand for "Welsh produce" and are keen to fulfil that demand.  This next step is for them to confirm what their volume requirements are for the 2012 season.   This visit will include a tour of the Castell Howell factory.

The requirements for growers are for class one product, to be packed to Peter Broughtons requirements and washed to supermarket standard.  Short lead times apply and growers would have to complete a self audit.

Bethan Rowlands from the Food Technology Centre based at Cardiff Metropolitan University in Cardiff, who works with Peter Broughton summarised some of the quality assurance standards that growers would need to meet prior to supply.   Horticulture Wales are organising workshops in the Spring to raise awareness of some of the assurance schemes most applicable in Wales.

Castell Howell Foods serve over 4000 customers being one of the leading independent wholesalers across the country.  They pride themselves on being “a one stop shop for the caterer” whatever the customer.  The organisations that they supply range from cafes, pubs and hotels to hospitals.

Peter Broughton established since 1952 is now one of Wales' largest independent fresh produce wholesalers and distributors.  The "ultimate in service, product range and reliability" they would like to expand their product range that they have supplied from within Wales to supply their customers that include Castell Howell.

Attendance is free and lunch will be provided.
