The Animal and Plant Health Agency will aim to prevent the spread of animal and plant diseases, and increase the nation’s capacity to respond to emergencies. It will be led by Chris Hadkiss, the current Chief Executive of AHVLA.

Environment Minister Lord de Mauley said the move would “enable joined up working on plant and animal diseases and pests, and will increase our resilience and flexibility to respond to emergencies”.
